The Property Palace (田宅宫) in Zi Wei Dou Shu

Updated 2026-08-12

In short: The Property Palace (田宅宫) covers home, land and accumulated assets — wealth at rest, as opposed to the Wealth Palace which covers wealth in motion. It also covers the household itself: the physical place you live and what it is like to be in it. It sits opposite the Children Palace, pairing what you keep against what you produce.

What you keep, and where you live

Two readings sit in this palace and both matter. The first is retention: property, land, savings that stay put — what survives after the money has stopped moving.

The second is domestic: the home as an environment. Whether the place you live settles you or drains you, and whether "home" has been stable or has kept changing. For readers who own nothing, the second reading is the whole palace and it is not a lesser one.

The four palaces read together

Property sits opposite Children and shares its triangle with Siblings and Health. The triad is the inherited and the domestic: the family you came from, the body you were given, the place you keep.

PalaceChineseWhy it is read with this one
Property田宅宫The palace itself.
Children子女宫Directly opposite. Whatever sits here is felt in the Property Palace at full strength — the two are one axis, not two topics.
Siblings兄弟宫Triangle point. Supports or drains the palace depending on what sits in it.
Health疾厄宫Triangle point. Same.

Read it with the Wealth Palace or not at all

A palace is never read alone. It is read together with the palace directly opposite it and the two at the triangle points — in Chinese, san fang si zheng (三方四正), "three sides and four corrects." A difficult star here is not a verdict; it is weighed against the three palaces facing it, and a strong palace opposite can reverse the reading entirely. Any reading that quotes one palace to you in isolation has skipped the method.

On its own this palace is routinely misread. Strong flow with weak retention and weak flow with strong retention are completely different lives, and neither is visible without reading Property and Wealth (财帛宫) together.
