What the Life Palace covers
The Life Palace describes what you are like, not what happens to you. Its stars are read as temperament: what you reach for first, what you avoid, how you behave when a situation stops being comfortable.
It is not a prediction and not a life summary. A practitioner reading only the Life Palace can tell you a great deal about your character and almost nothing about your circumstances — those live in the other eleven.
If your Life Palace contains no major star, which happens to a substantial minority of people, it is read together with the palace opposite and the stars there are borrowed into it. That is not a flaw. It usually describes someone whose character is drawn out by circumstances and by the people around them rather than fixed early.
The four palaces read together
The Life Palace sits in the strongest of the four triangle groups: Life, Wealth and Career, with Travel opposite. That grouping is why a Zi Wei reading tends to talk about who you are, how you earn and how you work as one subject rather than three.

The Life Palace and the Body Palace are not the same thing
The Body Palace (身宫) overlaps one of the twelve — it is not a thirteenth box. The usual distinction: the Life Palace is what you were born as, and the Body Palace is what you spend your life working on.
When the Body Palace falls in the Career Palace, work is the arena the life organises itself around. When it falls in the Inner Life Palace, the real project is internal. Two people with identical Life Palaces and different Body Palaces read very differently after about thirty-five.
