The shape of the work, not the job title
This palace answers how, not what. Whether you do better inside a structure or outside one, whether authority comes to you or has to be taken, whether you build steadily or in bursts.
It does not name an occupation, and charts that appear to do so are usually reading the era they were written in rather than the person in front of them. What the palace supports is the more useful question: given how you actually work, which environments will keep costing you and which will not.
The four palaces read together

The opposition worth understanding
A palace is never read alone. It is read together with the palace directly opposite it and the two at the triangle points — in Chinese, san fang si zheng (三方四正), "three sides and four corrects." A difficult star here is not a verdict; it is weighed against the three palaces facing it, and a strong palace opposite can reverse the reading entirely. Any reading that quotes one palace to you in isolation has skipped the method.
The Spouse opposition is the practical one. Because the two palaces face each other, pressure in one is read directly into the other — which in a reading usually surfaces as the same finite attention being spent twice, not as a prediction about either.
