The Children Palace (子女宫) in Zi Wei Dou Shu

Updated 2026-08-12

In short: The Children Palace (子女宫) covers children and, by extension, anything you create and hand on — students, work you build, things that outlast your involvement. It sits opposite the Property Palace, pairing what you produce against what you keep. For readers without children it is read as the creative and generative side of the chart rather than left blank.

Children, and what stands in for them

The literal reading is children: the relationship, not a headcount. The extended reading — the one that applies to everyone — is whatever you generate and then let go of.

That extension is not a modern softening for childless readers. Traditional practice already reads this palace for students, apprentices and the things a person originates, because the underlying idea is the same: something that comes from you, carries your mark and then goes on without you.

The four palaces read together

Children sits opposite Property and shares its triangle with Friends and Parents. The through-line is generations and the people around you rather than the people inside your own head: what you were given, what you gather, what you pass on.

PalaceChineseWhy it is read with this one
Children子女宫The palace itself.
Property田宅宫Directly opposite. Whatever sits here is felt in the Children Palace at full strength — the two are one axis, not two topics.
Friends仆役宫Triangle point. Supports or drains the palace depending on what sits in it.
Parents父母宫Triangle point. Same.

What it does not predict

A palace is never read alone. It is read together with the palace directly opposite it and the two at the triangle points — in Chinese, san fang si zheng (三方四正), "three sides and four corrects." A difficult star here is not a verdict; it is weighed against the three palaces facing it, and a strong palace opposite can reverse the reading entirely. Any reading that quotes one palace to you in isolation has skipped the method.

It does not give you a number of children or a date. Traditional sources contain that kind of claim; it is not something a careful reading puts in front of you, because it is both unverifiable in advance and damaging if wrong.
